World Championships

IFMAR World Championships 2026: three finished, one cancelled, one still to come.

IFMAR's 2026 calendar as first reported had five World Championships. On 30 October 2026 the 1:12 electric Worlds has been cancelled, the electric touring car Worlds has moved to Bangkok and is still to come, and the Large Scale, 1:10 nitro touring car and 1:8 nitro off-road Worlds are finished. IFMAR's own results pages were not read, so each result here rests on trade press or Wikipedia, and says which.

IFMAR, the world body for RC car racing, runs a separate World Championship for each class, and its four blocs (EFRA, ROAR, FEMCA and FAMAR) organise them on its behalf. How the blocs fit together is on IFMAR and the blocs. No IFMAR results page, event page or calendar page turned up in the research, so the results below rest on Red RC and LiveRC (trade press) and on Wikipedia (secondary). Each should be read as reported, not as IFMAR's published result.

Red RC first reported the calendar on 12 June 2025, and LiveRC listed a "2026 IFMAR Worlds Calendar" article the same day (headline only). On 7 July 2026 Red RC wrote that IFMAR was holding four World Championships in 2026, with Lostallo the first of them.

1:12 electric track: cancelled

The 1:12 Worlds was set for Foshan, China, from 26 to 29 March. IFMAR's release on the touring car move, as reposted by LiveRC, says the rescheduled event in Bangkok covers only the 1/10 ISTC division and not 1/12. IFMAR says it will invite its four member blocs to propose hosts for a 1/12 World Championship in 2027, adding that most existing 1/12 entrants prefer a carpet surface. Wikipedia's 1:12 page lists the Foshan edition as cancelled, with no winner. No IFMAR statement of a reason for the cancellation was read, so none is given here. No rescheduled 2026 1:12 World Championship was found; that it was not found does not mean one cannot happen.

1:10 electric touring car (ISTC): moved to Bangkok, still to come

The same IFMAR release says the 2026 ISTC World Championship moved from Foshan to the HUGE R/C Circuit in Bangkok, Thailand, an indoor asphalt on-road facility, after IFMAR and FEMCA reached agreement with HUGE RC and a second company named in the release. It refers to uncertainty around the Foshan event without giving a reason. It also says the Bangkok venue hosted IFMAR IC World Championships in 2014 and 2024.

The published schedule, as given in the release:

  • 8 and 9 November: optional International Practice Days for non-local drivers
  • 10 November: check-in
  • 11 November: open practice
  • 12 November: controlled practice and qualifier 1
  • 13 November: qualifiers 2 to 5
  • 14 November: qualifier 6 and the finals

LiveRC also lists a "2026 IFMAR TC World Championships Stage 2 Report" dated 17 August 2026, seen as a headline only. On 30 October 2026 the event has not run, so there is no result.

Large Scale (1:5 touring car), Lostallo: finished

Red RC's stage 2 report (7 July 2026) gives the venue as the MRTM Lostallo track in Switzerland, with registration on 26 July and racing from 27 July to 1 August. It counts 145 registered drivers in two classes: 100 in Open/Mod and 45 in a restricted Sportsman class. Red RC calls it the 12th Large Scale Worlds and the first since 2022.

Red RC reported on 1 August 2026 that Emanuele D'amico (Italy) won the 12th IFMAR 1:5 Touring Car World Championship. He took the lead after an early mistake by Top Qualifier Edoardo Repetti (Italy), who finished second. Giovanni Verbrugghe (Belgium) was third. Defending champion Markus Feldmann (Germany) ran out of fuel while third and was classified seventh.

This result rests on one Red RC report and has not been checked against IFMAR's results. The report does not say whether that final was the Open/Mod or the Sportsman class, though it reads as the main World Championship final, and the Sportsman winner was not found.

1:10 IC (nitro) touring car, Gubbio: finished

Red RC reported on 6 August 2026 that IFMAR had published an entry of 129 drivers from 21 countries for Gubbio, 4 to 12 September, headed by reigning champion Jilles Groskamp. The field size is given two ways by Red RC: 129 entrants in August, and 114 starters in its report of 11 September, which said 52 of those remained after the 1/16 finals. Red RC does not say why the numbers differ.

Red RC's reports through the finals, as listed on its racing page on 30 October 2026:

  • 11 September: Alex Esser's win in a 1/16 final was overturned after his car failed technical inspection.
  • 12 September: Toni Gruber and Melvin Diekmann won the two semi-finals. Groskamp missed the main final after losing the last-chance final by 0.071 seconds to Quentin Leroux (France).
  • 13 September: Naoto Matsukura won the World Championship, his seventh world title by Red RC's count. Filippo Domanin was second, one tenth of a second ahead of Toni Gruber in third. Kyle Branson was fourth, and Top Qualifier Dario Balestri sixth.

LiveRC's headline of 14 September 2026 also calls Matsukura the 2026 1/10 IC track World Champion, and a search summary of his Wikipedia page lists a 2026 first place in 1:10 IC on-road at Gubbio. The Red RC items are headlines and teasers from its listing page rather than full articles, and IFMAR's results were not read.

1:8 IC (nitro) off-road, Texas: finished

Where and when: the sources differ

The place and the start date are recorded differently, source by source:

  • Red RC (June 2025): Thornhill Racing Circuit, Texas, 26 September to 3 October.
  • Red RC's stage 1 report (6 April 2026): 27 September to 3 October.
  • EFRA's 1:8 off-road section minutes (November 2025): Austin, Texas, 27 September to 3 October.
  • Red RC's event coverage (September 2026): Thornhill Racing Circuit, Hutto, Texas.
  • Wikipedia: 26 September to 3 October.

Austin and Hutto may describe the same venue at different levels of detail, but no source read for this site says so.

The event

Red RC's stage 1 report calls it the 20th running of the class and the fourth time the Worlds has been held in the United States, and notes that 2026 marks 40 years since the first championship in 1986. LiveRC listed an entry-list article on 8 June 2026 (headline only). The format under IFMAR's 1/8 IC off-road rules (2024) is a ladder of finals ending in a 60-minute main final, explained on how a race meeting works.

  • Practice: Red RC reported Davide Ongaro leading early practice and the fifth free-practice round, and Burak Kilic fastest in the sixth and last (28 and 29 September).
  • Qualifying: in qualifier 5, David Ronnefalk set the fastest time, while defending champion Ongaro's car stopped on his last lap and he was sixth in that round (Red RC, 1 October). Mason Fuller took Top Qualifier with a third TQ run in the final round (Red RC, 2 October); a LiveRC headline of 1 October also names him.
  • Semi-finals: Ronnefalk won the first ahead of Juan Carlos Canas and took pole for the final; Chase Lemieux won the second (Red RC, 3 October).
  • Final: LiveRC's headline of 3 October calls it a 60-minute A-main. Red RC (4 October) reports that Ronnefalk won, with Fuller second, 1.439 seconds behind, and Canas third. Red RC calls it Ronnefalk's second world title, a decade after his first.

Wikipedia's 1:8 IC off-road page lists David Ronnefalk (Sweden) as the 2026 winner at Thornhill Racing Circuit, Texas. IFMAR's own results were not read.

What comes next

LiveRC lists an article titled "2027 IFMAR World Championship Calendar", dated 21 October 2026. Only the headline was seen, so its contents are not recorded here. Earlier champions in every class are on recent world champions, and the history of the championships is on the world championships.
